Regeneration of Activated Carbon

Posted by maani on Friday, January 22, 2010

In the regeneration process, from the carbon pore structure, the previously adsorbed materials or colours are removes and the carbon is made ready for reuse. Of so many modes of regeneration, thermal methods are widely and effective used.

Granular carbon can be regenerated easily in a furnace by heating in the presence of limited amount of water vapour, flue gas and oxygen. Some of the carbon is destroyed in the regeneration process and must be replaced with new carbon. The methodology of powdered carbon is not well defined. The use of powered activated carbon, produced from recycled solid wastes, makes no need of regenerating the spent carbon.
