Choosing a grad school is no small feat. In fact, to be safe you should choose more than one grad school that you’d be satisfied to attend, since competition can be pretty fierce. You might be surprised to hear that you can follow a prospective school on Twitter, but, in fact, many grad schools, and even programs within the schools have Twitter accounts and regularly post Tweets to keep students and other interested parties up to date. Here are some of the most popular Twitter accounts from graduate schools in the US.
Jones Graduate School of Business –Rice University – The Jones Business School at Rice University in Houston offers a wide range of MBA programs, including an MBA for Executives, and an MBA for Professionals, a full time MBA program and a PhD in Business. By following them on Twitter not only will you get a heads up on practical items like upcoming application deadlines, but you’ll also stay abreast of current business trends and gain information to help you in your business education, such as suggested reading.
VT Grad School – Virginia Tech’s grad school Twitter is one of the most active. It’s really designed for current grad school students, but would be of interest to those who’d like to attend school here, too. You’ll find news of importance to VT students as well as information about the school itself, like upcoming deadlines, recognitions and awards.
UC Davis Grad School - The University of California Davis also has an active Twitter Community. Everything from student recognitions to flu vaccine announcements to fundraising events are tweeted about. Again, the account is really designed for current students, but it gives prospective students good insight into what campus life will be like at UC Davis.
Trinity International – Trinity University’s Twitter page is one of the most popular. This blog is for undergraduate and graduate students alike and is one of the most fun. Not only do they post important school news like application deadlines and class delays due to weather, but they encourage student participation by conducting polls and asking questions. This Twitter page is a true look into campus life at Trinity.
Clemson Grad School – This is another active account that posts information like deadlines for application as well as announcements on campus. Though it’s an “information only” type account, it will give you insight into campus life.
Of course, it’s likely that your school of choice is not listed on this page, but don’t fear. Many other grad schools have active Twitter pages, and many more have set up shell pages to see if there are potential followers to a page. You’ll find that following a Twitter page on your chosen school can help you get comfortable with campus life and activities before you even arrive, as well as keep you up to date on important deadlines and expectations.
